MyPublisher App Reviews
The software is very slow and it took me more than three attempts to load the photo album. They say the pictures can be dragged and dropped but I had to try several times since the screeen kept freezing. Finally it must have uploaded though I never got a confirmation screen. Just an email saying I was successful . The quality of the photobooks is undoubtedly good but something needs to be done about the process that is so slow and full of bugs! So back to other photobook publishers for me!
The good is that the finished albums are top of the line. Lay flat books, super glossy heavy pages are great. (I’ve used iPhoto and Smilebooks and both were just okay). The books I created were using OSX 10.6.8 and 6.2.x MyPublisher. The app is great if you want a lot of control over the layout. It is also time consuming since photo boxes do not snap to a grid (there is no grid). There were printing errors with both books, but MyPublisher reprinted both (after problems were corrected) and shipped them back 2nd? day air, all at no charge to me. The bad is I just updated to OSX 10.9 and now MyPublisher cannot see my iPhoto libraries. Version 7.0 is available from MyPublisher, but since I down loaded the app from the Apple app store, I have to wait for Apple to certify it before it will run on my iMac. Apple, please certify Version 7.0
MyPublisher is not a typical application - it hides YOUR project files in locations that are not accessible to the average user. In the event that you have a hardware problem and need to recover from a system or hard drive failure - you are screwed. There is no way to ensure that your working project is getting backed up in Time Machine or that you can manually find and recover the files from a damaged stargae device. The support is poor. It is apparent that they are a Windows focused product and that Mac is an after-thought (if any thought is given at all). There is no knowledgebase or FAQ to assist the user on their support page. All in all - it is a poorly supported application for Mac users. iPhoto, Aperture and even Lightroom are much better products for creating Books. Until MyPublisher fixes this - and uses the Documents folder or a MyPublisher folder under Documents - I would avoid this application.
Trying to create a book in my publisher for a client and it continually crashes. In addition to the crashing, it won’t let me change my page layouts and freezes when attempting to move image around in book. Please fix or update program.
In Yosemite, this app either crashes on launch or if not, seems to be trying to scan all attached storage in search of images. That’s a BIG problem if you have a lot of storage. it will take a VERY long time to complete, if it completes at all without crashing. I’ve ordered books from MyPublisher, which are quite good, but lacking in sizes and proportion options compared to other services. The high gloss photo paper with lay flat binding is particularly nice and unique. Too bad there is no square book option and the software is unusable.
The company just gives you the run around. I have made several books with them. 75% of them have to be reprinted due to software error. Missing photos, black boxes where photos are…. A terrible cirlcle of fail. The app does not work. The customer service says update from their site. It copies over the app store version. Upon launch, it says the app store version is newer and prompts you to quit…. YET you can not update from the App store because it just spins and spins…. TERRIBLE uneducated script reading customer service reps… Customer service is by far the worst. They read from a script and could careless about actually helping. When I goto update the program, the status just spins in the upper left corner endlessly.
Shortly after I upgraded to Yosemite I submitted an order for a 100 page book produced under an earler version of MyPublisher. Since this version was incompatible with Yosemite, it could not be printed. I received an e-mail from MyPublisher with a link to the later version (7.2.1.3230) but it would not open. I contacted their support where a young woman appropriatetely named Angel walked me through a process which safely uninstalled the APP store version, replaced it with the current one, all of my projects reappeared and I was able to re-submit the order. This was not an easy process and at one point I missed a step and we had to start again. They were endlessly patient and it all worked. This had lost so much time that I realized I could not receive the books by Thanksgiving when it was my intention to gift them. MyPublisher went that extra mile and overnighted the order at THEIR expense to make this possible. These people really stand behind their product and the support was outstanding. Experiences like this create loyal customers.
ALthough the final shipped product, creating the book on this piece of software was painful even on a 2013 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM and i7 processor. Thats not even to include the number of times it crashed throughout the process. Next time, I’ll just stick with iPhoto.
Im a graphic designer and am used to using Adobe software. Obviously this app doesnt compare to InDesign, but it does do a good job of laying out a photo book. The process is fairly straight forward and easy to understand. I have tried using other book creation systems, like ROSE. BookMaker is way easier to deal with. The results of the printing look great. The finish options really make the book shine. I highly recommend this system.
I have used MyPublisher for several years, several software updates. Keeps getting better. This version has ability to add or delete photos or text to all of the pre-formated templates, so is very versatile. Sizes and proportions can also be changed for special formating. Lay-flat pages and two page spreads make for real impact. I’m anxious for next update, but will continue using this, as the books print so well.
I have used MyPublisher twice now and I am pleased with the finished quality for the most part. My first book came back with some printing issues, meaning some of the pages looked as if they had shifted while running through the printing press so they were a bit askew. They were quick to fix the issue though so no harm, no foul. This app however, is another story. It stinks for Mac users! It crashes pretty regularly and does not have all the same features as the PC version for example, we cannot switch around the page order like PC users can. Come on guys, get those updates going!!
I really like the quality of the MyPublisher photo books and the fact that they have an off-line application for developing a photobook. What I do not like is their customer support. I have been trying for about 6 weeks now to get a photo book printed. I get an error = 0 generated by the software but no one at MyPublsiher can explain what that means. I have spent hours on the phone with them and many many Emails. I sent in an Email with specifics about the problems I was having and recieved in response "Thank you for contacting the Customer Care Team. Were very sorry to hear youve had an unsatisfactory experience with us, and will forward your feedback to the appropriate departments. MyPublisher is constantly working on improving products, systems, and providing a pleasant customer experience. Again were truly sorry you were unhappy with your experience with us and will review your experience to ensure we use it to improve.” They have no means for a customer to change their Email address even if that Email address is no longer valid. It must be forwarded to “the management team” and “it takes 24 to 72 hours” and only becomes effective when one places a new order. Catch-22 if one can’t place an order due to technical problems! Be smart. Use another vendor for your photo books if you want the photo book in a timely manner. Despite the fact that I will have to duplicate my work, I am in the process of creating my photobook with another vendor. As I said I am really disappointed because I love the quality of the MyPublisher books, but if I can’t get the books, quality is irrelavent.
Having problems version 8.0.2 Unexpectedly Quitting when launched. Hoping this update tweak will help IF I can get it to download. Been trying for a two days an nada...
I have used MyPublisher for over 10 years now. My troubles began when I traded over to a mac. This program is awesome, but just does NOT work as good on macs. I have found that when an updated version is released, DO NOT download from their MyPublisher website. When I did, I could not open my program - and had 2 months of errors. When I download the app from the Apple Store, it FINALLY worked, and I didn’t loose my old books (phew). I will continue to use because the sales are great, and I have not found anything that beats the ease of making on your computer as you go. PLEASE MyPublisher, make this program mac friendlier.
When it works, this is a great software for putting together a coffee table picture book. But crashes are normal. Last night I reached my full frustration. Just as I finishing a book the program crasehd and would not reload So, I went to my other Mac. Both have 16GB memory and are very fast. Again, I had almost completed a book and again the program crashed and would not reload. I contacted tech support at MyPublisher and spent 90 minutes giving them access to the computer. They reinstalled the program multiple times and removed all kinds of other files. Finally, it works. At least on one computer.
I too have trouble with downloading to a MAC. I previously used with a PC with no problems. I just go through an endless loop of trying to download from the app store and from the website, but it will not open. I get error message over and over after trying to install over months and months. Just so frustrating. I will have to use another service to make a book. So sad because I love my other photo books made with MyPublisher.
We had used this program on a Compaq Laptop running Vista and it worked OK. We replaced the compaq with an early 2015 Macbook Air running OS X 10.11.1. Downoaded MyPublisher only to find that, while it can see photos in iPhotos, directories and in Family Tree Maker, it CANNOT see photos inside the Photos Program that Apple included with the computer. MyPubisher Support lady advised we had to copy photos out to a folder but never mentioned that their program does not work with Photos 1.2.. Sorry.
I created an entire photobook of my wedding pictures for family gifts for this Christmas (2015), but the software will no longer open on my Macbook Pro. I cannot open the app, I can’t download the software update from the Mac App Store - this is a mess. My Publisher has been slightly apologetic on Facebook, but they haven’t done anything to help fix the software and let me access my photobook. I just want to open it up and look at the 70 pages of work I put into this so that I can copy them over to another photobook service, but I can’t do that. Come on My Publisher - you give me a really good coupon for a first time buyer, and then don’t support your own software? Totally disappointed and frustrated that I’ve spent several of my weekends working on this and then am stopped in the final stretches by technical issues.
You have to copy all your photos out of iPhoto and into MyPublisher. This means duplicates everywhere, and it also means any edits done in iPhoto wont show up in MyPublisher. Overall the software may be great at designing a book, but the lack of integration with the existing infrastructure makes it worthless. You may wonder why I just don’t use the book option in iPhoto. It’s a little to canned. I was looking for the features offered by MyPublisher.
I have made several photo books with My Publisher using the windows format. This last spring i purchased a new MAC and i have installed the Mac software for My Publisher. It’s very clumsy and eventually after a couple of weeks I wasn’t able to even open the program up. I am normally pretty sketptic of negative reviews but in this case it’s justified. PS I love the quality of my publisher books just wish they had a better ap to help build your book.
